Popular Marketing Hooks to Actually Increase Engagement and Conversions

Have you ever heard of marketing hooks? These are ways to hook the mind of your reader in order for them to take action.

There are a number of ways to approach increasing your engagement and conversion rates on social media, email marketing and other promotional outlets. These marketing strategy hooks are widely practiced. Here are five key approaches that you should be using if you want to see great engagement that leads to increased conversions:

  1. Problem-Solution: If your business is the solution to someone’s problem or your mission is the solution to a public problem, lead with the problem and then tell them how you or your business/mission can help bring about a solution.
    • Tired of…?
    • Overwhelmed with…?
    • Lacking time to…?
    • Feeling stuck…?
  2. Emotional Appeal: Tapping into someone’s emotions creates a unique connection where they can “feel” what you are saying which immediately makes your service or product relevant to them.
    • Give your child an experience they will never forget…
    • Show mom/dad how much you love them by/with…
    • Ignite passion in your relationship, by booking time away at…

  3. Urgency and Scarcity: People today have a natural fear of missing out. If they think everyone has bought this or that or everyone is involved in your mission AND they might miss out if they don’t do “the action” TODAY, they are more likely to engage.
    • Almost sold out…

    • Our mission has reached over (number) families…
    • You can help (number) people in need with your recurring gift of…
    • Learn what (number) (industry) leaders have learned by…
  5. Question: Don’t write a statement to describe a picture instead use a question to make the reader think and get curious.
    • What does it look like when a major gift helps us reach more of those we hope to serve?
    • What flowers are the top picks for fall brides?
    • Where can you get cabinets like the ones you’ve seen trending on Instagram?
    • Why do we urgently need your help?
    • How can my gift make a difference today?

All of these strategies are widely used in email marketing, on social media, and in promotional materials. Each of these methods get the wheels turning in the mind of the reader. Once their mind is engaged, they are more likely to take an action.
